After planting a custom Native flowering forb mix, the front border area is filling with grasses. Needless to say, I am nervous. I now feel comfortable mowing to 6″ when cover crop gets to 10″, not pulling when it may affect other seedling roots, and dealing with spots. But I certainly am panicking about another area full of grass.
The custom mix included Big and Little Bluestem, and no other cover was requested. But this was identified as a possible oat cover by the seed company. Will have to wait and see how it pans out. The seed below matches those that were in high volume in the mix. (If lick is in the stars, it will be Sea Oats from a nearby plant!!! )
I will purchase individual species from this point, so I can become familiar with the seeds and better identify as they grow.
