Spring 2024

March 18, 2024

We started the year off with a storm that took down a co-dominant stem (fork) of the large Cottonwood tree. No damage done, but it took a bit to clean that up again.

My first work in February was to start working on the masses of Hairy Bittercress that was popping up in newly-cleared areas. Our CISMA expert advised planting Native Grasses to discourage growth and seeing. The first area was to the right of the small hill that fills with Bergamot and Cardinal Flower in the summer.

In March, with lovely weather, we also worked on more honeysuckle behind the berm. It was budding by March 15, and easy to identify. I also pulled Mugwort from the berm, which has now been covered by grass seeded by the “bulldozer.” Hopefully after treatment, some of the Native species will rise.
