Not much to look at yet, but the grass area is turning green, and butterflies continue to emerge from the leaves of Fall. Leave the Leaves!
An Red Admiral enjoys some warm ground.
One last look at the pretty bulbs before stump-grinding and transplanting. We’ll have to wait to identify the grasses. Some are from an Annual cover, others are from a Native grass and sedge seed mix. Grass identification is proving to be the most difficult until we move into late Spring. it will be interesting to see if the Annual cover blocked some of the invasive grasses from returning.
A lovely Cherry tree that was lost when the “logger” dropped the walnut. The amount of damage was shocking, and a lesson learned.
Daffodils! Love them, but they are not Native. Some decisions will need to be made…perhaps a spot in the home garden.
Deer barrier around 2 Native Wisteria (on trellises to avoid spreading to trees, which are already under stress, ) a Japanese Maple (non-Native, but not aggressive and isolated,) sedum and a Whipcord plant (also not native, but reproduces by cuttings.) A little cheat area for interest while we restore the Natives. *Update: These were later (2023) moved to the house area, after serving as a little eye candy and a peaceful spot.
