Winter DeVining

December 9, 2024

Warm winter weather is a mixed bag–it makes for great working outside, but also is encouraging “even more” Motherwort to pop up in newly cleared areas.

We scheduled consultations the wonderful folks of Kalamazoo Nature Center and OutdoorsDiscovery.org for estimate on wetlands invasive removal, large (massive0 Buckthorn Tree removal, seeds and planting. How fortunate to have such wonderful resources in our area!

Most of the time spent early in December was cutting and brushing huge vines that are choking the trees. Lesson learned as well–you can catch poison ivy in the winter, from the “hairy” vines! I took a few hits on the face and neck, but, thankfully, after a couple of rough nights, I found that it is much less annoying in cold weather.

A lovely photo taken by our “over the river” neighbor.
